The annual Costume Institute Gala is basically the Oscars of the fashion world, so it’s not surprise that guests pull out all the stops for their red carpet outfits. Held at the Metropolitan Museum, this year’s theme was Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. Prep yourself for crazy metallic gowns, Zayn Malik’s armored suit and a whole lot of robot inspired style.
1. Taylor Swift
Taylor is absolutely rocking her badass platinum bob and pulled no punches in a standout Louis Vuitton mini with matching knee high sandals.
2. Kim and Kanye West
In typical Kimye style, the pair rocked up and basically stole the show. Kanye wore and embellished denim jacket with matching blue contact lenses and Kim brought the sexy robot vibes in her Balmain dress. Extra props for the bleached brows.
3. ALICIA VIKANDER
We usually love a risk taker but this get up is all kinds of wrong. Someone tell The Danish Girl star that hiking boots are not appropriate for a black tie gala!
4. Alexa Chung
The queen of effortless style is perfection in this custom suit dress from Thakoon. The sequined get up is perfectly matched to the theme, but she keeps it looking fresh and relaxed with demure makeup and accessories.
5. Demi Lovato
The love of sequins continues with Demi Lovato at her first Met Gala appearance. Unfortunately the custom Moschino gown fits her in all the wrong places, with the boat neckline making her shoulders appear twice their usual size. Better luck next year.
6. Amber Heard
Amber brought her A-game to the Met Gala and stepped out in this to die for silk gown. We aren’t totally sure how it fits with the theme but who cares – when you look that good we don’t ask questions.
7. Nicole Kidman
Hold the phone because Nicole Kidman looks hotter than we have ever seen her. She looks like a total goddess in this custom Alexander McQueen creation, complete with cape and crown headpiece.
8. Kerry Washington
She is usually at the top of our best-dressed list, but Kerry really dropped the ball with this one. This look is so over the top gothic that it totally overwhelms her frame. The crazy purple hair, the gloves and the layered gown are messy and would be better suited to a Halloween bash.
9. Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid
Gigi looks beautiful as per usual, but we’re yawning over her choice of outfit. Zayn appears to have taken the machina theme literally and has strapped on some robo arms. Subtlety is clearly not his strong suit (get it?).
You can always count on the Queen B to kill it at the Met Gala and she did not disappoint. Her structured latex gown fit her perfectly and answered the theme to a tee. Go girl.
