Health trends come and go but the waist trainer appears to be sticking around for good. Popularised by celebs like Kim Kardashian and Amber Rose, waist trainers claim to contour your mid section and provide the extreme hourglass shape that is so in demand.
Whilst we have to admit that Khloe looks pretty damn good in hers, we cant help but be concerned about the possible damage she is doing to her body. Keep scrolling to find out the possible dangers of waist shapers.
1. They are squeezing your internal organs
The majority of your vital organs sit in the space between your ribs and your hips. Constricting this area compresses those vital organs and can possibly cause conditions like bowel blockages or abdominal bleeding.
2. They restrict blood flow
When laced tightly, waist trainers can seriously restrict the flow of blood around your body. The blood flow from your heart to your legs is under pressure, which can cause swollen feet and damage to the blood cells, as well as provoking fainting spells.
3. They weaken your core
Celebrities advertise wearing these contraptions during exercise to promote further contouring of the torso. The problem is that in doing so, your back and stomach muscles are not having to work, which means that they are weakened to the point where they may no longer be able to support your posture.
4. They probably aren’t even working
With all the possible side effects, it is probably a little disheartening to hear that waist trainers probably don’t even work. Whilst they may provide the appearance of a slimmed waistline, it has the same effect as wrapping an elastic band around your wrist – it leaves an imprint for a short time before it reverts to usual.
