It’s a new year, and it may be time for a new you! If weight loss was your New Year’s resolution, make sure you are wearing clothing for every stage in your fitness journey.
No matter what a person’s size or shape is, everyone needs clothes that fit well and those who are set on losing weight are no exception! As someone who slimmed down from almost 200 pounds, to my current weight of 146, I can understand why dressing well is hard. You buy a pair of pants, only to have them barely stay up less than two months later. Shirts that once looked decent when you were 15 pounds heavier, no longer look flattering.
I fell into the trap of wearing ill-fitting clothing until I reached my goal weight, but that can really decrease your self-esteem. I am a firm believer that a person needs clothes that help them feel more confident whether or not they gain or lose weight. If your New Year’s resolution was to start hitting up the gym and lose a few belt sizes, here are some ideas to consider next time you buy an outfit or purchase some clothes.

Stock up on well-fitting basic t-shirts. They are pretty forgiving when they are worn a little loosely. Basics were my best friend while losing weight, as they were fairly inexpensive to replace once they became too big to wear.

lay around with accessories. Let this weight loss journey be a time where you can include more necklaces and bracelets in your wardrobe. Basics can look kind of boring at first, but they look amazing when paired with the right accessories. Some of the most on trend pieces include printed bags, decadent hair accessories, chains, and chokers.

When purchasing jeans, limit yourself to no more than two pairs. This is for obvious reasons - you wouldn’t want to drop an excessive amount of money on jeans that you can’t wear for the rest of the year. I’ve made this mistake before and now I realise I would have been better off with 2 pairs of blue jeans, 2 black jeans for work, and a pair of distressed jeans. The same rule applies to other components of your closet, such as skirts and button up shirts.

Try a sweater. They are much more forgiving size wise than a structured jacket. What is great about a sweater is if you lose a few pounds, a sweater will still look cute when worn oversized.

Buy athletic clothing that makes you feel confident. Why wear something boring when you could wear something that is fun and increases your confidence? Athletic wear has become an increasingly popular choice for every day, making it easy to obtain a stylish find.
Lastly, the best thing you can wear while losing weight is a good attitude. Losing body fat means nothing if you are still left with an unhealthy attitude about your body when you reach your fitness goals. Instead, strive to love yourself no matter what the scale tells you. Losing weight isn’t about losing fat, but losing the habits and mindsets that made you unhealthy in the first place.
