Everyone knows the Oscars for their super glamorous gowns, but the real fashion statements often happen after the awards are given out. The after parties are jam packed with celebs keen to celebrate their win or commiserate their loss and an outfit change is often in order to keep with the more relaxed vibe.
We love seeing the amazing (and quick) transformations from ball gowns to slightly sexier ensembles, and there is no better place to spot this transition than at the infamous Vanity Fair after party. We have rounded up our top 10 unbelievable outfit changes from this year’s awards. Which one is your favorite?
1. Jennifer Lawrence
Our love affair with J-Law continues to grow with every passing red carpet appearance. She looked super elegant with a hint of goth at the Oscars in a tiered nude and black creation by Dior. For the after party, she ditched the full skirt and changed in to a matching black crop top and skirt with a thigh high split. Extra brownie points for adding a smoky eye to amp up the sex appeal.
3. Alicia Vikander
The Danish Girl star made a serious statement on the red carpet in her custom Louis Vuitton gown. It was super traditional with a tea length skirt and she paired it with bold earrings and an up do. For the after party, Alicia opted for a super sexy black sequined gown with a plunging neckline, shook out her hair and accessorized with her Oscar statue – who wouldn’t?
3. Chrissy Teigen
Proving that being 7 months pregnant is no excuse not to be impeccably dressed is Chrissy Teigen. The model wore a stunning burgundy embellished gown to the awards show and accessorized with a relaxed braid and nude makeup. The after party saw her slick her hair back into a modern low bun and slip into a black shimmery gown which fit her in all the right places.
4. Olivia Munn
We seriously cannot decide which look we love more! Munn wore a stunning orange Stella McCartney column gown to the awards and matched it to her bright lip. She threw her hair up into a messy pony tail, swapped out the earrings and stepped into this super sexy J. Mendel creation for the after party. We love the matching shoes!
5. Daisy Ridley
New kid on the block Daisy Ridley, aka Rey from Star Wars, stunned on the red carpet in this Gatsby-esque frock. The custom Chanel gown was perfect against her milky skin tone and dark features. For the after party, Daisy opted for a mini dress and showed off her amazing pins. We love that she really changed up her whole look and went for something totally different.
6. Brie Larson
For the awards ceremony, where she took out Best Actress, Larson opted for this stunning royal blue Gucci dress that had the critics divided. She rallied and pulled out a vintage style Monse gown and matching heels for the after party and looked like an old school movie star. We much preferred the relaxed hair and makeup against the pale pink of the second gown.
7. Sofia Vergara
Sofia’s motto is if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Her red carpet choices are almost always strapless gowns with cinched waists to highlight her amazing hourglass figure and toned arms. Her awards ceremony gown was voluminous and dramatic, but she toned it down slightly for the after party, with a slinky white number by Marchesa.
