The obsession with turning household products into miracle beauty treatments has officially gone too far. Beauty blogger @hudabeauty has over 12 million followers on Instagram, and she recently shared a post regarding her top trick to promote eyebrow growth. And it involves a few tears.
Huda claims that onion juice is the ultimate product to help you grow the thick, healthy, Cara Delevigne-esque brows that are so in fashion at the moment. Her logic? “Onion juice has sulphur which speeds up the growth of hair and makes it thicker”.

Her suggested technique involves massaging raw onion juice on your brows for five minutes, and then allowing to dry completely before washing off with cool water. She claims doing this every day is the secret to her on point brows.
Naturally, we have a few concerns about putting onions near our eyeballs, so we did some more research. The Allure beauty experts weighed in on the claim that sulphur promotes hair growth and it turns out that Huda, and now many of her followers, are smearing onions on themselves for no good reason.
“I’ve never seen any evidence that topically applied sulphur can enhance hair growth,” states cosmetic chemist Randy Schueller. “If that were true, everyone would be selling sulphur solutions for hair growth”. He has got a point there.

We would suggest that the danger of putting onion juice near your eyes outweighs any potential benefits to hair growth. Onions contain enzymes that cause inflammation and burning of the eyes, and these enzymes travel through the air. This means that it will affect your eyes, no matter how careful you are with your onion juice application.
We say stick with your eyebrow serum, put down the tweezers and be patient ladies!
